Projects

Rose’s Tea Hut
The first major task undertaken was taking on the running of the much loved Roses Tea Hut. An integral part of the Gander Green Lane landscape, it had sadly stood unused for a season following the retirement of Rose herself and then subsequent contractors. In 2007, SUST undertook restoring Rose’s to full working order to ensure our fellow supporters could obtain a decent half time cup of tea and a pie as well as playing a vital role in our fundraising activities.

Summer Groundworks
In conjunction with our friends in the Vice Presidents Association, SUST regulalrly helps supply funding and volunteers for regular summer renovations of Gander Green Lane. Some of the tasks undertaken are:

- Redecoration of home & away dressing rooms.
- Renovation and painting of all turnstile blocks.
- Removal & replacement of old & out of date hoardings.
- Re-painting of main stand metalwork and brickwork.
- Repainting of barriers on all terracing.
- Repainting of club shop.
- Refurb & repainting of press & PA box.
- Original dugouts renovated.

These efforts help bring a tired old arena a little more to life and also provided a more pleasant environment in which to watch football.

Collingwood Recreation Ground – Redevelopment Proposal (2008 – Ongoing)
For many years now, the one main problem with our home has been the remoteness of the sweeping Collingwood Rec terrace from the pitch. As part of it’s commitment to help it’s club and it’s community, SUST put together an ambitious proposal to have this end of the ground redeveloped to consist of a new community facility and a terrace\stand for the football club. The proposal met with great interest from our local council and whilst it was sadly unsuccessful, the proposal led to forging many great links with community groups (Friends of Collingwood Rec) and the local Metropolitan Police ‘Safer Neighbourhood’ Teams has since spawned into a much more promising idea involving the return of football facilities to the Collingwood Recreation Ground, including redevelopment of the far side of the ground to include changing and other amenities to allow this to happen.

Don’t worry though, that remote terrace hasn’t been forgotten!

Currently, the project stands at the planning stage, with discussions ongoing with various parties with regards to funding.

Perimeter Advertising Boards
To show our commitment to SUFC and also to help remind you, our fellow supporters, that SUS is working on your behalf, the trust purchased 2 perimeter advertising boards to allow us to both publicise our cause and assist the football club commercially.

One board can be seen proudly displayed behind the Gander Green Lane goal, the other as you enter the ground via the car park

Ballboy Sponsorship
In 2009, our matchday ballboys were in dire need of some new kit of their own! SUST assisted with the purchase of a set of smart tracksuits, so all the boys (& girls!) who make up our gang of matchday ball retrievers now not only look the part, but felt like a team in their own right!

Colts\Juniors\Youth Sponsorship
Since our inception, SUST has tried to ensure that all our teams benefit from funds raised by our volunteers by assisting with kit purchases whenever possible. So far since 2007, all our Juniors\Colts teams have proudly worn the SUST logo on their shirts, with our under 18’s Youth team also displaying our logo on their matchday tracksuits.

It is hoped that this initiative can be expanded with full sponsorship of at least one of the teams per season.
